SOMERSET™

"Zero Calories, Zero sugar, Zero regrets” rings the slogan for Somerset Sparkling an Austin, Texas based sparkling water founded by mixologist two brothers. Somerset aims to provide active, health-conscious, working professionals, youngsters, and college-aged consumers with delicious sparkling waters that are not only refreshing, but also reinvigorating! Reach past soda and grab the sparkling water that uplifts. Somerset is naturally flavored and lightly caffeinated sparkling water.

Logo Design, naming, and package design with a bit of copy writing were supplied to the guys at Somerset. Watercolor was employed to create a visual visceral simulacra inference of water tinted with flavor.

Oconee Brewing Co.™

Oconee Brewing Co reached out to us to design their craft beer labels and website. We developed a double sided can layout as well as type system that provided for an illustration highlight between the dual titles. This can template has lead to some of the illustration best work our studio has ever put out. We also built a website that is easy for the brewers to keep updated.

LION LAMM®

The first beer Young Athenians designed for Oconee Brewing Co. was LION LAMM®. Lion Lamm is a commemorative IPA that celebrates the opening of Oconee Brewing Co. and the birth of the head brewer’s son Leo Lamm. In honor of Taylor Lamm’s entry into fatherhood we illustrated a Lion nuzzling a lamb and drooped the baby’s name in the stars as the constellation Leo.

ROUND HERE BEER®

The second beer Young Athenians designed for Oconee Brewing Co. ROUND HERE BEER® is a crisp, balanced and refreshing Kolsch. After a field trip out to the charming lake country and historic downtown Greensboro, Georgia we were inspired by the time capsule / cinematic feel of the quaint southern brick dusted town. The name Round Here inspired us to illustrate a cylindrical downtown Greensboro street scene in front of The Yesterday Cafe, a knock out gem of southern cuisine that the brewers are lucky to eat at daily.

ROUND HERE BEER®

THREE ONE THOUSAND®

The third beer Young Athenians designed for Oconee Brewing Co. THREE ONE THOUSAND® has a balanced malt and hop bitterness on the front end and heat on the back end. Hence the name 3, 1000. It’s a count down until a light habanero and strawberry spice heats up your palate. Since this is a relatively unique addition to the IPA market, we created a high caution meteoric pepper illustration that we feel conveys the heat on this IPA.

THREE ONE THOUSAND®

GRAN DUNKEL®

The fourth beer can Young Athenians designed for Oconee Brewing Co. GRAN DUNKEL® is a dark wheat beer with light chocolate, slight coffee notes whilst being both bready and sweet. Oconee Brewing Company tasked us with illustrating the GRAN DUNKEL® can. Located next door to the brewery is a seed and feed store that has saw dust on the floor and the uniform appears to be a weathered baseball cap and overalls. this inspired the carpenter uncle character and the green color scheme & cookoo clock are a nod to Dunkel’s Bavarian origins.

DUKES & BELL'S HEY MAN®

HEY MAN® is a collaboration beer with Dukes & Bell from 92.9 The Game - Atlanta Sports Radio. A very approachable, easy drinking blonde ale. Light yellow in color. Low hop aroma and bitterness. Smooth and refreshing. Oconee Brewing wanted a can that expressed both brands. The HEY MAN can is illustrated with a Dukes & Bell double portrait, with a color scheme that hints at team allegiances without making any promises.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co.

Creature Comforts is a growing, independent brewery in Athens, Georgia. Creature Comforts puts care and attention towards making several different types of beer for the local community and surrounding markets.

We love our city and were so excited that a brewery was opening up down the street from the studio. We were even more excited when they called upon us to build out their online identity and product designs, and our partnership with Creature Comforts has flourished ever since. We created the core can template and over a dozen individual can product designs for Creature Comforts in a style that boosts brand recognition, but also balances that brand uniformity with an illustrative identity.

The website needed to be dense. The cult following amassing was palpable. Young Athenians built a knowledge base that could meet the hype of this blooming brewery. We wrote and designed an online identity that the brewers could take over and run themselves. Our typography for a poster and the website have gone on to become the brand’s core typography and are used through out their advertising and merchandising. Our work for Creature Comforts has been reproduced world wide and has amassed a celebrity fan base. Most recently two of our cans TROPICALIA® and ATHENA®were featured in MARVEL AVENGERS: ENDGAME.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co.

TROPICÁLIA®

Designed for Creature Comforts Brewing Company’s delicious fruity IPA. Tropicália® is a balanced, soft, and juicy IPA. A hop aroma of citrus and ripe passion fruit leads into a full, fruit-forward hop flavor that washes over the palate, and ends with a subtle bitterness. Tropicália is also the name of a Brazilian artistic movement that started in the late 1960s. It is best known today for its music, which merged Brazilian and African rhythms with rock and roll.

Young Athenians began our relationship with Athens, GA based Creature Comforts in 2011, creating 'Tropicália' 2 years before the brewery launched. The can has since come to represent both the brewery and Athens, GA design ingenuity, coming in ahead of the curve on the tropical design explosion of the past few years. Design blog THE DIELINE in a glowing review remarked, "I know it's going to draw attention in the design community & most likely winning some awards along the way." Tropicália is now available in select Georgia markets. The proportional colorblocking / landscape / seascape geometry of the can has since been nailed down as the brand’s core visualization strategy. We are proud to have created a color block that immediately identifies a Creature Comforts beer.

TROPICÁLIA®

ATHENA®

Athena is a refreshing, gently tart German-style wheat beer. Our take on the classic Berliner Weisse is brewed with a house blend of lactobacillus, which imparts notes of citrus, cider, and sauvignon blanc. In 1809, Napolean’s troops dubbed the Berliner Weisse “The Champagne of the North.” That’s why we call Athena the "Champagne of the South,” as a tribute to our hometown of Athens, Georgia.

In tribute to our goddess Athena, Young Athenians drew the Goddess walking down Washington Street and by the her grace wheat has grown through the street. Our surreal illustration has been turned into a series of Athena cans, Athena Paradisio with Cherry, Athena Paradisio with Guava, and finally Tritonia.

ATHENA®

TRITONIA®

Designed for Creature Comforts Brewing Co. By Young Athenians; Tritonia is a tart and refreshing Gose (4.5%abv) with hints of coriander and sea salt. This variant of Tritonia will feature the addition of cucumber and lime. The tartness of the beer and addition of lime is perfectly balanced by the cool freshness of cucumber.

TRITONIA®

BIBO®

Bibo [Pilsner] - Bibo (pronounced bēbō) is a true pilsner with ingredients from five different countries that has a pronounced continental hop flavor and aroma in an incredibly well-balanced package. We use an enormous amount of the classic Czech Saaz and a touch of Motueka hops from New Zealand to put a new world twist on this beautiful old world style. Motueka offers a subtle pineapple note that underlies a harmony of the traditional black pepper, herbal, and cracker grain character pilsners are famous for. Bibo is dry, quenching, and frankly amazingly delicious.

“I DRINK” aka BIBO required a whiff of authority. Creature Comforts Brewers wanted this lager’s can to feel prestigious so we incorporated 18c Guilloché, a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via engine turning, which uses a machine of the same name, also called a rose engine lathe. Guilloché traditionally has been used to create official documents and currencies world wide. We thought it was a perfect match to the creative brief of a beer that requires a level of distinction and prestige.

BIBO®

KOKO BUNI

Koko Buni is a lovely milk porter brewed and aged on toasted coconut, cocoa nibs from Athens' own Condor Chocolates, and coffee from our collaborators at 1000 faces. The name actually comes from the raw ingredients we use in the beer. Koko means coconut in Papiamento, a common language in parts of the Carribean, while Buni means coffee in Swahili, a common language in southeastern Africa.

The flavors of this beer are rich and velvety like a warm camp fire, which also is the perfect setting to share with your friends. Mentally take a journey there or to whatever is your perfect autumn evening while enjoying Koko Buni.

Young Athenians were proud design a beer that was sure to become a winter staple. We solicited the illustrative help of one of the local art heros, David Hale. Hale is an Athens, Georgia based illustrator who is gaining a cult following. The collaboration proved an award winning one.

Buster's Bitters

Buster's Bitters offers "a drop of distinction"

We were presented with a fun market challenge. No one has yet tackled and really nailed the bartenders secret ingredient... AROMATIC BITTERS. A local mixologist from one of our favorite farm to table restaurants approached us with the task of transforming his homemade bitters into a real market offering. The result was Buster's Bitters.

Buster's Bitters was a top to bottom brand delivery. We were presented with a delicious ingredient that packed maximum punch but had no identity, message or focus. We delivered a brand first label design to help this grass roots aromatic bitters brand grow from one product offering to four. We helped create the name, based on the client's bff/dog "Buster" and coined the phrase "a drop of distinction" to use as a tag line.  We created recipes to go on the side of the bottles and wrote all of the copy to suit adventurous appetites.

Farm Burger

Farm Burger locations are spreading through out the south east. We were part of the Farm Burger family before there even was a Farm Burger, designing the site for Farm255, the restaurant that started it all. Young Athenians sat in on early brand meetings with the Farm team to determine how a burger joint could be different, educational, and community activated? When Farm Burger struck out as its own entity we were right there to make its own distinct website and type system. We helped FB chose the colors, interior decor, think of diy print alternatives, and designed all of the in-store graphics templates.
